L014 Sunshine Pleco
L014 Sunshine Pleco
Natural Range: Rio Xingu and Rio Iriri, Brazil Source: Aquarium Bred and Raised Estimated size at shipping: 3-4" Adult Size: around 15-16" Sold as: Unsexed Overview: One of the prettiest plecos out there, these are covered with bright gold dots on a dark background and lots of orange and yellow in the fins, especially when young. Unfortunately, a large portion of this fish's habitat is getting wiped out by the construction of a large dam in Brazil. Fortunately, there are several aquarium populations which are being bred. Hopefully, these aquarium breeding efforts will be enough to preserve the species. They are fairly easy to keep and are a wonderful addition to our aquariums, so we are hopeful they stay around for a long time. Diet: Carnivore These fish have specialized teeth for eating mollusks and love to eat snails. However, snails are not necessary in the aquarium as they are not picky feeders and will eagerly eat a wide variety of sinking foods. They appreciate meaty frozen foods such as brine shrimp and bloodworms. They also enjoy rasping on large sinking pellets and wafers. Even though they are carnivores, they do need some veggies in their diet to balance things out. Ours readily consume algae wafers as well as zucchini cut into 1/4" coins and stuck on a fork so it sinks. We also find that ours appreciate some wood to rasp on.
