While keeping a single specimen in a tank by itself is fine, they are also one of the few species of puffers which can be housed in groups. If more than one of these puffers is housed together, we recommend keeping a large group so no individual is overly targeted during the establishment and maintenance of their social hierarchy.

Fun Fact: Puffers are one of the few species of fish which can blink their eyes.

All of our puffers are dewormed upon arrival.
Setup Considerations:
In nature, this species inhabits areas with low or no water flow, so, while filtration with gentle current is fine, aquariums with very strong water movement are best avoided. These fish spend their days curiously scanning the nooks and crannies of plants, rocks, wood, and other surfaces for food items. Adding lots of these surfaces to the aquarium will enrich their lives.
Diet: Carnivore
True carnivores, Pea Puffers thrive on a diet of small live and frozen foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, scuds, and blackworms. They relish snails. With a little time and patience, they will usually also learn to accept dry prepared foods.

Unlike some puffers which require regular tooth trimming, we have never had to perform dental maintenance on our Pea Puffers

Overview: One of the most fun fish to keep, these nano-puffers have all the inquisitive personality which makes their larger cousins such great wet pets, but are less expensive to buy, less expensive to feed, and much easier to house.

While a few customers report success keeping these puffers in a mixed species community aquarium, our experience, and that of the majority of our customers, is that these feisty puffers are likely to nip the fins of other species.
